Asociación del Índice de triglicéridos-glucosa (Índice TyG) y el riesgo cardiovascular en docentes de educación superior.

Resumen

Las enfermedades cardiovasculares son la principal causa de mortalidad global, con la resistencia a la insulina como factor fisiopatológico clave. El índice Triglicéridos-Glucosa, un marcador simple de resistencia a la insulina, es una herramienta prometedora para la estratificación del riesgo. Este estudio analizó la asociación entre el índice triglicérido-glucosa y el riesgo cardiovascular en docentes universitarios. Mediante un estudio transversal en 160 docentes, se calculó el índice triglicérido-glucosa y se estimó el riesgo cardiovascular a 10 años con el Score Heart de las Américas. Los resultados mostraron que el 46.9% de la población presentaba un alto riesgo de resistencia a la insulina. Se encontró una asociación estadísticamente significativa (p=0.010) entre un índice triglicérido-glucosa elevado y un mayor nivel de riesgo cardiovascular; el grupo de alto riesgo de resistencia a la insulina tuvo una mayor prevalencia de riesgo cardiovascular moderado-alto (29.3%) en comparación con el grupo de bajo riesgo (10.6%). Se concluye que el índice triglicérido-glucosa es un biomarcador accesible asociado significativamente al riesgo cardiovascular, validando su utilidad como herramienta de tamizaje en salud ocupacional para la detección temprana del riesgo cardiometabólico.
