Influencia de los hábitos alimenticios en el desarrollo cognitivo de los escolares.

El estudio analiza la relación entre los hábitos alimenticios y el desarrollo cognitivo de escolares en una institución del cantón Ponce Enríquez, Ecuador. Con un enfoque cuantitativo, descriptivo y transversal, se encuestó a 195 estudiantes de 11 a 16 años, abordando aspectos sociodemográficos, alimentación saludable, comportamiento alimenticio y desarrollo cognitivo. Los resultados revelaron una alimentación poco equilibrada, con bajo consumo de frutas, verduras y agua, y alta ingesta de alimentos ultraprocesados. Solo el 3.1 % de los estudiantes reconoció la conexión entre la alimentación y funciones cognitivas como memoria y atención. Además, se identificó la ausencia de horarios alimentarios regulares, consumo frente a pantallas y limitada promoción familiar de hábitos saludables. La confiabilidad del instrumento utilizado fue alta (Alfa de Cronbach 0.99). Se concluye que los hábitos alimenticios inciden directamente en el desarrollo cognitivo, por lo que se recomienda implementar estrategias educativas nutricionales en escuelas y hogares, así como realizar investigaciones clínicas y neuropsicológicas complementarias.
